shoe4africa - make the difference!

Welcome to the fundraising page for Amanda Scuderi and Jess Chermak! We’re thrilled that you’re taking the time to learn more about our fundraising campaign to support Shoe4Africa (and our really strange addiction to this sport). This year, we’ve decided to hit the five boroughs with the TCS New York City Marathon in support of Shoe4Africa!

The funds we raise will go toward a groundbreaking initiative: the construction of the first pediatric cancer hospital in sub-Saharan Africa. The development of this medical facility is critical. Currently, 9 out of 10 children diagnosed with cancer in this region do not survive. Shoe4Africa has already achieved a significant milestone by building East & Central Africa’s first Public Children’s Hospital, which has provided crucial care to over 1,000,000 children.

As if this endeavor weren’t rad enough, Shoe4Africa has some other incredible initiatives that compelled us to raise funds for this organization:

—Education: Shoe4Africa has constructed six free-to-attend public schools, each linked to a Kenyan athlete, contributing to the education of thousands of children.
—Sports Development: Shoe4Africa also supports sports development programs, including organizing races and events to promote physical activity and healthy living among African youth.

In the months leading up to race day (November 3rd, 2024), we will dedicate almost 100 hours to running over 400 miles (#BackOfThePack). Because the bulk of training occurs over the summer, and neither of us do well with the summer heat, most of our long runs will begin before dawn on Saturdays, every weekend. If you thought we were a little cuckoo before, now how do you feel? Somehow, this is exciting for us, so please root us on by donating to this wonderful cause!

Our goal is to raise $6000 and 100% of your donation, regardless of the amount, will go directly to the hospital’s development. Together, we can make a substantial impact on the lives of children facing cancer in sub-Saharan Africa.

We appreciate your support and couldn’t do this without you (and your money)!
