Mark your calendars for March 16, 2025! I’m lacing up my sneakers for the NYC United Half Marathon in support of Shoe4Africa—a remarkable charity committed to improving the lives of African children through sports, healthcare, and education.

I chose this organization because it holds a deeply personal significance for me. Some of you may remember Andy, who had a dream of working with African communities. He was completing his master’s degree in Paris with the hope of joining nonprofit organizations in Africa, particularly those focused on helping children, before his unexpected passing in October 2022. Participating in my first half marathon in early 2023 was both a physical and mental challenge, and I did it in his honor. This time, I’m supporting a cause that aligns with what Andy would have been passionate about.

Shoe4Africa began with a simple goal: to provide running shoes to aspiring young athletes in Kenya. Today, the organization’s efforts have expanded significantly, including the establishment of landmark hospitals like Africa’s first children’s teaching hospital and the first pediatric cancer hospital in sub-Saharan Africa. Despite these incredible achievements, our work is far from complete.

Many children across Africa still face severe challenges, lacking access to essential healthcare, critical treatments, and quality educational opportunities. This is why I’m reaching out for your assistance. By backing my marathon run, you’ll be directly supporting initiatives that bring vital care and learning to those who need it most.

Every dollar you contribute goes straight to Shoe4Africa’s impactful projects, ensuring that your support truly matters. No matter the size of your donation, it can make a meaningful difference. Additionally, sharing my fundraising page with friends and family can help us extend our reach and amplify our impact.

Together, let’s make strides toward a future where every child can hope for a healthier, brighter tomorrow.

With love and appreciation,

Jonny Martinez
