Thank you to Dr. Raymond Omollo, the Principal Secretary State Department for Internal Security and National Administration – Kenya for posting about our project:
“In partnership with the Government of Kenya, the Shoe4Africa Foundation is constructing a state-of-the-art Pediatric Cancer Hospital at Moi Teaching Referral Hospital (MTRH). Groundbreaking took place in January 2024, marking a historic milestone in strengthening child-centered cancer care. The facility will host 152 beds exclusively to children aged 14 years and below, easing congestion at existing units and ensuring that young patients receive specialized attention. Currently, children with cancer are already managed by pediatric oncologists. However, upon completion, the new hospital will provide purpose-built pediatric oncology services, including infection prevention barriers, isolation facilities and automated chemotherapy preparation and administration systems, thereby elevating the quality and safety of care. This will be the first public pediatric oncology hospital in the region, both in the public and private sector, a game-changer for cancer treatment in Kenya and beyond. The facility will also feature learning spaces and play areas for children undergoing long-term care, creating a healing environment that nurtures both the body and mind. It will also serve as a training and capacity-building hub for medical students and professionals, ensuring a continuous pipeline of expertise in pediatric oncology.
