shoe4africa - make the difference!
Hello, friends and family!
Thank you for supporting Shoe4Africa via my 2019 NYC Marathon fundraiser!
I first got to know S4A in 2008 when I spent time in Eldoret, the site of most of Shoe4Africa’s efforts, volunteering with the Kenya Scholar Athlete Project in nearby Iten. Through KenSAP and the amazing Lornah Kiplagat, I met the legendary Toby Tanser, the founder and driving force of S4A. Little did I know in 2008 the inspirational things that Toby and S4A would be accomplishing over the next ten years.
Fast-forward to now, and S4A has built Kenya’s first public children’s hospital (and one of two in sub-Saharan Africa), five primary schools, and continues to lead myriad projects that literally save children’s lives and empower women and children. You can click on the website links (at the top of this page, to the right) to read the details of their accomplishments and their in-the-works and future projects.
Furthermore, S4A makes their dollars STRETCH. Their overhead costs are virtually zero, and everything is done through pure blood, sweat, and tears. Even this (somewhat clunky) donation website is a testament to S4A’s laser-focused efforts to make every cent count. Crowdrise, the popular fundraising platform, charges 3-6% to host a fundraiser with another 2.9% + $0.30 fee per donation! In contrast, 100% of your donation goes directly to funding S4A’s projects.
S4A is a registered 501(c)(3), and all donations are fully tax-deductible.
I’m so excited to run the NYC Marathon this year on the Shoe4Africa Team. Thank you for helping to support this fantastic organization!
