MAKE THE DIFFERENCE Cape Town Fundraising Campaign Charles Jennings Why I Run At 55 years old, running did not just change my life—it helped rebuild it. Seven years ago, I started running to improve my health. What began as a personal decision evolved into discipline, structure, and ultimately, identity. Over time, running became more than a routine—it became a system that shaped how I approach life, health, and purpose. In 2026, that system carried me to the Boston Marathon, where I raised over $20,000 for AKTIV Against Cancer. That experience confirmed something important: Running is not just about miles—it is about what those miles can produce. Foundation — Community and Consistency My journey is rooted in Mile Style Running Crew, a South Bronx–based movement founded by Miguel Hernandez over nine years ago. Mile Style was built on a simple idea: create a consistent space where people can show up, move, and improve together. Over time, that consistency became culture, and that culture became community. Through Mile Style, I learned that: • consistency builds discipline • discipline builds structure • structure builds identity I did not do this alone. This community made it possible. Purpose — From Personal to Impact What started as a personal journey expanded into something bigger. Running became a way to: • raise funds • support causes • connect effort with real-world impact Through AKTIV Against Cancer, I used running to support individuals fighting disease, reinforcing the idea that: Movement supports health before, during, and after illness. Health — Movement as Prevention Running is not just exercise—it is a proven preventative health tool. Regular physical activity: • strengthens the immune system • reduces chronic inflammation • helps regulate weight and hormones • improves cellular health and overall body function. These factors are directly connected to reducing the risk of chronic disease, including cancer. In communities like the Bronx, where health disparities are significant, movement is not optional—it is essential. Running is not just fitness—it is prevention. Expansion — From the Bronx to Cape Town Now, I am taking this work beyond the Bronx. In 2028 plan to run the Cape Town Marathon in partnership with Shoe4Africa, an organization dedicated to improving healthcare access for children across Africa. Their work includes: • building East & Central Africa’s only public children’s hospital • treating over 1.4 million children • expanding access to life-saving care — Why This Matters In many parts of sub-Saharan Africa, access to healthcare remains limited. Children who should have a chance to survive often do not—simply because the resources are not available. This is not just a fundraising campaign. This is an opportunity to help change outcomes. What This Campaign Represents This campaign connects everything I have built: • personal transformation • community foundation (Mile Style) • healthcare perspective • purpose-driven action From the Bronx to Cape Town, this is one system expanding— using movement to improve health, build community, and create impact. The Ask I am asking for your support in helping expand this mission. Every donation: • supports access to healthcare for children • contributes to life-saving infrastructure • extends a proven system of movement + impact beyond one community This is bigger than a race. This is about creating change that continues beyond the finish line. Closing Other marathons were proof. Cape Town is purpose. — “I started running to change my life. Now I use it to help change others.” “Movement is Medicine. Community creates consistency. Impact is the result.” |
