shoe4africa - make the difference!
Thank you for supporting Shoe4Africa via my 2019 New York City Marathon team fundraiser!
I first met Shoe4Africa’s founder Toby Tanser in 2007 through our mutual friend, the amazing Lornah Kiplagat. I had just spent my first summer in Iten and Eldoret, in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya, and Shoe4Africa was still in its nascent stages. Little did I know the tenacity and passion with which Toby would take this vision and how far Shoe4Africa would actually go.
Fast forward to now, and Shoe4Africa has built the second of only three public children’s hospitals that serve the entire region of sub-Saharan Africa. Its facilities have served hundreds of thousands of children and trains local health care professionals. Not limited to just health care, Shoe4Africa has created five public schools, with the Mary Keitany (2018 NYC Marathon champion) Secondary School having just opened in 2018, and more are in the works. Shoe4Africa makes every single dollar count. They have virtually no overhead costs, determined to spend every cent on services on the continent. Even this website is an example of their efficiency – organizations like Crowdrise take 3%-5% of a donor’s pledge, whereas this platform ensures that 100% of your donations go towards services, fully tax deductible as a 501(c)3 (Tax ID 020766269).
I’m honored to be part of the Shoe4Africa NYC Marathon 2019 team and to run for them on November 3, 2019. Thank you for your support!
