shoe4africa - make the difference!
After years of enjoying casual running, I am excited to push towards a new goal and take on the New York City marathon on behalf of a very good cause.
I have decided fund raise, and run with Shoe4Africa, a nonprofit organization that focuses on public health, education, and empowerment in East and Central Africa. What began as a project to provide shoes for athletes in Kenya, is now an initiative to develop the health and education infrastructure in Sub-Saharan Africa. Previously, the region had only one public children’s hospital, meaning children were left to visit general hospitals (often at capacity), or find a way to attend a private hospital. The Shoe4Africa Hospital opened its doors in 2015, and has treated more than 116,000 children. They are an accredited Teaching Hospital in partnership with Kenya’s 2nd largest university, and are now planning to build the first public children’s cancer hospital in Sub-Saharan Africa.
