Hello family and friends! I will be running the New York City marathon this coming November on the behalf of Shoe4Africa, and I’m asking for your help in donations. Ever since I got into long distance running a few years back, I’ve always wanted to run the NYC marathon. It’s one of the liveliest and dare I say “funnest” looking marathons that I’ve followed. This year I have an opportunity to run it while also raising money for an important cause with Shoe4Africa, and contribute to their efforts in building the first children’s cancer hospital in sub Saharan Africa. I’d love to use this opportunity to bring awareness to what this organization is doing for the communities there. If you know me, sports and athletics have always been an extension of who I am and how I live my life. Over the last few years I’ve used running as one of the main lenses through which I navigate and explore culture, sport, and its many intersections. I actually started running in earnest when my kids were born as a way to help them nap! Before long I realized they were napping for a few hours in the jogging stroller, and I found myself not minding the long runs. While I personally find so much joy in running, I’ve always realized how important it is for me to use it as a way to show my kids the importance of staying healthy both mentally and physically, while working hard & enjoying a process outside of professional work. I’m looking forward to training for the NYC marathon, gaining new experiences, meeting new people, and supporting Shoe4Africa along the way. Thank you for your support. Much love! -Joe |
