shoe4africa - make the difference!

false - 21688

I can’t think of two better reasons to lace up my running shoes than 1) to help children in need survive cancer and 2) to honor my sister’s legacy.  My sister Juli passed from cancer after an 11 year battle.  So today, I’m working to both change the world, and honor her memory as we prepare to run the NYC 2022 marathon for Shoe4Africa and raise funds to help build the “Juli Anne Perry Pediatric Cancer Center.”  This will be the FIRST EVER children’s cancer center in all of Sub-Saharan Africa and will be built in my sister’s name. It is both a tribute to my sister’s life and a doorway to saving hundreds of children’s lives battling cancer in Africa every year.

Juli led a remarkable life full of service and her legacy is still an inspiration!  She loved visiting Africa where she became passionate about helping children there.  An American child with cancer has a 90% chance of living. An African child has a 90% chance of dying.  Shoe4Africa, an amazing non-profit organization, offers the opportunity for those kids in Africa diagnosed with cancer, to have a fighting chance.  With this new public children’s cancer hospital, children will be able to be treated and protected in a facility used ONLY for pediatric cancer patients. Once built, it will save hundreds of lives each year.

I’m humbled to be a part of the Shoe4Africa team at the NYC Marathon. Whatever you can contribute, I am deeply grateful. Know that your donation will go directly to the hospital.  No amount is too small and all are tax deductible. In a world where much is out of control, this is an opportunity to come together and do something positive.

Change the world! Be the Hope!

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” ~ Margaret Mead
