Dear friends and family, I committed to run in the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon to raise funds for Shoe4Africa. I extend my gratitude for your incredible support, regardless of the contribution size, as I embark on this journey. Each one of us has, at some point, been touched by the far-reaching impact of cancer. As many of you are aware, I lost my father to lung cancer 13 years ago. The profound loss of a loved one is an experience we all dread, but navigating the challenging stages of this relentless disease, both for the patient and their loved ones, presents yet another formidable hurdle. The presence of a dedicated medical team and a well-established support system can often make the difference and, in some cases, even save lives. It’s disheartening to note that in sub-Saharan Africa, there isn’t a single children’s cancer hospital. Shockingly, 9 out of 10 children diagnosed with cancer in this region do not survive. In contrast, in America, 90% of these children find healing and hope within specialized children’s cancer centers. Shoe4Africa is on a mission to change this dire situation by establishing the first children’s cancer hospital in the region, a public facility in Kenya comprising 152 beds. Your generous donations will directly impact the lives of African children born into poverty who are battling cancer. Thank you for your compassion and for joining me in making a significant difference. Your support means the world to me as I take on this inspiring challenge.
