shoe4africa - make the difference!
If you are here, it is because you are thinking of joining me on my mission to help children in Africa. You may generally know that children born in sub-Saharan Africa don’t have the same access to healthcare that we have in the United States and other western countries. But what you likely do not know is that 9/10 African children who are diagnosed with cancer do not survive, contrasted with 1/10 in the U.S.
If you know me, you know that I am a mom and I have lost loved ones to cancer. When my mom received her diagnosis, she was able to go 2 miles down the road to Stanford Hospital. I simply cannot fathom that if I was a mom in Africa, my children would have such a grim prognosis and I would be faced with very few options – we in the United States have the luxury of taking health and healthcare largely for granted. Shoe4Africa is filling a critical void, providing one of only three public children’s hospitals in sub-Saharan Africa, including Africa’s first pediatric oncology hospital.
I cannot think of a more worthy cause, or a better reason to lace up my racing shoes. I am extremely humbled to be a part of the Shoe4Africa marathon team at the 2022 New York City Marathon. Whatever you can contribute, I am deeply grateful for your support. You can feel confident knowing that your donation will go directly to the hospital. In a world where many things feel out of our control, this is an opportunity to come together and have a significant impact for the better of the human family. Join me.
With deepest gratitude and appreciation,
