shoe4africa - make the difference!
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
As some of you know, I started running again in 2014 after a long hiatus. After gradually building up from the “Couch to 5K” plan, in 2015 I signed up for my first half marathon, the United Airlines NYC Half, and to raise funds for Shoe4Africa, an organization dedicated to providing healthcare, education and other services in Africa.
As I learned more about the charity, whose achievements include building and opening the first public children’s hospital in East Africa and five public schools in Kenya, I was inspired by its mission and wanted to get more involved. Later in 2015, I joined the board and started volunteering as treasurer of Shoe4Africa. I continue to be impressed by Shoe4Africa’s commitment to improving lives in a region where so many people lack basic access to healthcare and education, as well as its minimal overhead expenses compared to many other non-profits, ensuring that all donations make a real difference. At the same time, I also became hooked on running, and ran the NYC Half with Team Shoe4Africa again in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
This year, I am stepping up to a new challenge by running my first full marathon, the TCS New York City Marathon, with a fundraising target of $3,000. As I continue to ramp up my weekly mileage to get ready to run 26.2 miles through the five boroughs on November 4, I am hoping you’ll consider a tax-deductible donation to help me reach my goal.
