Welcome to my fundraising page!

I am so excited to have been given the opportunity to run the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon on March 19, 2017 with Team Shoe4Africa.

I was first introduced to the organization, Shoe4Africa, through well known, and former college running buddy, Kenyan Olympian Sally Kipyego, whom currently resides as an Ambassador for Shoe4Africa.

As many of you know, caring for my African roommates while attending college was very important to me and my family. It was very inspiring and at times, gut wrenching, to hear the stories of their families they left behind in Africa to attend college in the United States, all in hopes of having a bright future. My passion for helping others, especially in Africa has always been in the back of my mind. Fortunately, I have been given the opportunity to achieve a goal I’ve longed for since having first hand conversations with my college roommates from Africa.

Shoe4Africa was founded by runner & philanthropist Toby Tanser in 1995. This organization originally began by collecting shoes and in turn giving to those who were in need. Many children were found to have been walking barefoot to school, where they were susceptible to diseases. In 2010, Shoe4Africa opened its first public school where around 1,500 students attend a free quality education. Since then, this organization has grown to have built the first public children’s hospital, which opened on August 12, 2015. It currently sits as full capacity, never denying a child health care. As of November 3, 2016, approximately 37,990 kids have successfully been treated at the Shoe4Africa Children’s Hospital! It is with great honor and dignity to have been given the opportunity to run with Team Shoe4Africa at the upcoming United Airlines NYC Half Marathon. Your donation if very much appreciated as we all work together to better the lives of those who long for a healthy and bright future.
